December 10 - Making Decorations

It's great fun for family and friends to sit together making Christmas decorations. The friendly chatter that occurs whilst making paper chains from old magazines can help draw each member closer together, young and old. In sharing this activity together we are able to open our hearts and give of ourselves.

Things to do

• Wrap up your presents for friends at school or work.
• Choose a decoration and put it up.
• Make crowns and hats for Lucia Coffee which comes on December 13.
• Sing a song...

Echoes from the distant hillside

Glorify His very name

Gold and blue the heav'ns are shining
On this day, Alleluljah!
Nature's gifts of His designing
Proud display, Alleluljah!
Green the fields and golden harves,
Brown the bushland, hills of blue;
Wonderful this day of wonders,
Christ is born, Alleluljah!

Men of peace and men of good-will
Gladly sing Alleluljah!
men who toil, His works to fulfil
Pray for strength, Alleluljah!
On the farmlands, in the cities,
Those at sea, are one the same
In the sight of Jesus Christ Lord

• Make some decorations...
• Paper chains from old coloured magazine pages - glue is slow to dry so use staples or sticky tape
• Placecards and matching serviette rings
• Tree decorations using cooked playdough

Cooked Playdough

• 1/2 cup salt
• 1 cup flour
• water
• 2 drops glycerine

1. Mix the flour and salt in a bowl
2. Add water gradually to make a stiff dough
3. Add glycerine
4. Add more flour if sticky.
5. Shape into decorations. Remember to make a hole for hanging.
6. Bake then paint when cold.
7. Hang on tree.
