The traditional time for making cakes and puddings was Stir-up Sunday at the end of November, the Sunday before Advent Sunday. With the destructive heat of our Australian climate we often delay the making of these foods until just before Christmas and thus Christmas baking becomes an exciting holiday activity for all.
Things to do
Here's a list of goodies to bake:- Fruit mince pies
- Christmas pudding
- Christmas cake
- Shortbread
- Chocolate peel
- Rum balls
- Marzipan fruits and dates.
- Sing a song...
Sing a song of Mincemeat - Elizabeth Gould
Sing a song of mincemeat
Currants, raisins, spice,
Apples, sugar, nutmeg,
Everything that's nice.
Stir it with a ladle,
Wish a lovely wish,
Drop it in the middle
Of your well-filled dish.
Sing a song of mincemeat
Currants, raisins, spice,
Apples, sugar, nutmeg,
Everything that's nice.
Stir again for good luck,
Pack it all away,
Safe in little jars and pots
Until it's Christmas Day.
