Monday 2 September
We rushed off again by 9am to walk down to the bus stop to meet Suzy and head for the west again. This time we got off at Newmill and followed the signs along a country lane past a few scattered farms, picking blackberries along the way.
One and a half miles later we came to Chysauster Iron Age village and had a great time poking around within the walls of a few of the “house” enclosures and photographing butterflies and moths in the heather.
After we had had our fill we walked back to Newmill and decided we were too tired for more walking so found a shady spot to sit and eat our lunch whilst waiting another hour for our return bus.
We got back to St Ives and Suzy suggested we do “tea” at the Carbis Bay Hotel overlooking the bay. After another one and a half mile steep walk up and down over the headland the hotel turned out to be much renovated with prices to suit so we went down another 100 or so stairs to the beach cafe where we enjoyed hamburgers followed by an ice cream.
It was then time to decide how to get home. Suzy went back into town but Elaine and I chose to take the level route past Tescos where we stocked up on supplies. This was a lovely route home along a quiet street, a public footpath, and a narrow country lane. We ended up just at the bottom of our street so only a short hill home rather than the long climb up from town.
We then collapsed on our beds(at 6pm) with a glass of the wine we'd bought at Tescos. We are determined that we'll now relax and not go out to dinner.
After a bit of a bag sort I created a bundle to try to post home tomorrow. I'll see how much it costs when we go down to town.
Tuesday 3 September
This morning we were both determined to take our time over breakfast as there was no rush to catch a bus. We enjoyed a bit of leisure and blogging before we walked down to town.
We enjoyed a morning tea drink at a small cafe on a very busy corner near the church. Suzy and Rosemary found us there so we said our goodbyes as they are busy today and our concert trip to the Minnack Theatre has been cancelled tonight.
Then there was the bundle to post. The PO lady was very helpful and also able to top up our mobile phone.
At 12:30 we went back to St Ia's church for a concert of Cornish folk music by David and Delia Brotherton. The music was very relaxing although the pews were not – quite narrow and straight. However it was cool in the church after a hot walk around town.
We had lunch back at the little cafe where they served gluten free cornish pasties.
A little more walking to restock gluten free supplies and of course have an ice cream and I even bought a pair of slacks on special.
Back up the hill to a rest and tidy up. We did blog updates and emails and enjoyed our light dinner finishing up our cheese, crumbled biscuits and wine.
The taxi has been ordered for our train trip tomorrow. It will be another quick breakfast.
