Tuesday 28 May 2019 (C to D on the map)
At Lorella Springs the rooms have no jug and coffee and the coffee in the kitchen is only available from 7:30am which is breakfast time. We did have power in the room to charge phones and laptops but no phone reception. Minimal wifi was available if you could find a spot.Today we left Lorella Springs early and headed south east on the Savannah Way.
The scenery remained scrub country and some on board are learning the concepts of "remote" and "distance". We went across quite a few dry creek crossings that were wet just a few weeks ago when Paul and Faye came across from Cairns.
Once we reached the main road to Borroloola we were on bitumen for a while. We enjoyed morning tea at the Borroloola Police Station Museum with a few moments of phone access. Unfortunately not enough time to get one of my bills paid as my computer was packed under the bus.
We were surprised by the size of the Goliath Stick Insect on the outside wall of the museum. It was about 20cm long!
On again towards the east where we were astounded by the devastation wrought by cyclone Trevor just a few months before. The scrub looked as though a bomb had hit it with all trees stripped bare of leaves (just beginning to regrow) and many many trees broken or uprooted and all lying dead in the same direction.
At Wearyan creek we came across Callitris and Cycads again.
Lunch was on the banks of the Robinson River.
On again south east eventually arriving at the turn off for our next stop Pungalina-Seven Emus Wildlife Conservancy. This is a wildlife sanctuary run as part of the AWC and Outback Spirit has built a glamping setup on it.
Unfortunately the track in is over 60km and quite rough in parts. The drive in took us 2 hours. We did see a dingo on the way in which surprised us all so much that we were quite slow to find our cameras.
After a day of long roads and "short" cuts we arrived to find our tents and enjoy a fabulous dinner prepared by the Outback Spirit caretakers for the season, Clive and Andrea.
